Those prices are firm - we don't charge more for an exotic than we do for a commuter car. Unusually shaped glass is quoted individually.
A clear, hard-coated urethane film applied to the outside of the windshield. It absorbs the impact of gravel and road debris so small rocks bounce off instead of chipping or cracking the glass. We install ClearPlex Contour, which is designed specifically for windshields: it's optically clear, safe for wipers, and self-heals light scuffs with heat.
Most windshields on vehicles built in the last several years carry the camera for lane-keeping, adaptive cruise, forward-collision warning, and heads-up display. Replacing that glass means recalibrating those systems, which typically adds $300 to $700 to the bill. A film that costs less than one replacement is the cheaper path on a modern car.
No. Installed correctly the film is invisible from inside and outside the car, with no tint, distortion, or glare. It's safe to use wipers and washer fluid normally once it has cured.
Installation starts at about two hours and runs longer for large or panoramic glass. The film then takes 2 to 4 days to cure to full clarity; a little haze in that window is normal and clears on its own.
Expect 12 to 24 months of service depending on mileage and conditions; heavy freeway driving wears it faster. The manufacturer warranty covers yellowing, peeling, and adhesive failure for 18 months or 18,000 miles, whichever comes first. When it's done its job, we remove it and can install a fresh layer.
