Paint protection film, also commonly called clear bra, is a clear urethane film applied over your vehicle's paint. The film we install is STEK DYNOshield, and it is designed to absorb gravel, rock chips, and road debris from I-5, I-405, and Highway 2 before they reach your paint, and its self-healing top layer can recover from many light scratches and swirl marks with heat. Unlike a ceramic coating - which mainly delivers chemical, environmental, and surface benefits such as UV, chemical, and water-spot resistance - film adds a physical sacrificial barrier designed to absorb impacts from road debris and reduce the risk of resulting paint damage. If you want a change of color or finish rather than clear protection, that is colored PPF, a separate service.

Which Coverage Level Fits Your Situation

You commute on I-5, I-405, or Highway 2 most days

Partial + Front covers the panels that take the gravel: bumper, hood, partial fenders, lights, mirror caps, and door edges. It is the budget-conscious starting point at $1,500 for a car.

The vehicle is new, or new to you

Full Front, at $2,000 for a car, extends coverage to the full fenders and is the most common choice for keeping a fresh finish intact. Adding a ceramic coating over the film saves 30% on the coating.

You want the whole vehicle protected

Full body coverage - every painted panel - starts at $5,000 and is quoted per vehicle based on size and film finish.

You drive a truck or SUV

Truck and SUV pricing runs $200 higher per package, but coverage choices differ too. See what a truck actually needs before buying a car-shaped package.

You drive a Tesla

Model-specific coverage, what we skip, and full-vehicle film pricing are laid out on our Tesla protection page.

You are not sure what fits the budget

Our pricing page lists current pricing across every service, or request a quote and we will scope it to your vehicle.

What Paint Protection Film Does and Does Not Do

STEK DYNOshield is designed to absorb much of the abuse of daily driving before it reaches your paint. It helps, and it has limits - here is the honest version of both.

What it is designed to protect against

What it cannot do

How We Install Paint Protection Film

Film is cut on a plotter from patterns made for your specific year, make, and model, then installed in-house by STEK certified APC technicians. Working from vehicle-specific patterns means the film is sized to your panels rather than trimmed freehand on the paint.

APC uses a non-disassembly approach. We do not remove door handles or bumpers as standard PPF installation practice. What you should expect is a clean, professional film installation with finished edges that follow the vehicle's body lines - not a vehicle that looks like it was taken apart and put back together. Shops that build their process around disassembly are making a different tradeoff in time and cost; ours is a documented process focused on fit, edge alignment, and long-term performance.

Caring for Paint Protection Film

Film does not need a special product line, but it does reward sensible care. Follow the post-installation care instructions we give you at pickup, and keep to the basics below.

We also install ClearPlex Contour windshield film for the one glass surface that takes the same highway impacts your paint does.

About the 10-Year Warranty

The 10-year term on this page is STEK's manufacturer warranty on DYNOshield film. It belongs to the film itself.

A ceramic coating warranty is a separate product warranty with its own term - 5 years with Ceramic Pro Silver, 7 years with ION, and lifetime with Ultimate ION. When you buy a film and coating package you are getting two separate warranties, one on the film and one on the coating, not a single combined term.

Paint Protection Film FAQ

How much does paint protection film cost at APC Auto Spa?

Film coverage runs from $1,500 to $2,000 for a car and $1,700 to $2,200 for a truck or SUV, film and coating packages run $2,840 to $3,260 for a car, and full-body coverage starts at $5,000 and is quoted per vehicle. The package tables above list every price line by line. Those prices are firm - we don't charge more for an exotic than we do for a commuter car - and vehicles outside the car or truck/SUV categories, like a Sprinter van, are custom quoted.

Which paint protection film do you install?

STEK DYNOshield is our film. It's a self-healing, hydrophobic urethane film with a 10-year manufacturer warranty, available in Gloss, Matte, Gloss Black, and Matte Black. We do not install XPEL or other brands. APC is a STEK certified installer, so DYNOshield carries STEK's full 10-year manufacturer warranty.

How long does PPF installation take?

Partial + Front and Full Front packages are done in one day. Full-vehicle coverage takes three days at minimum and can run to five depending on the vehicle. The film then cures for about 10 days. Our Monroe shop has courtesy cars by reservation for jobs four hours or longer.

What happens during the 10-day cure?

The film's adhesive finishes bonding and any remaining moisture under the film clears. At the 10-day mark, bring the vehicle back for a free wash and inspection; we check every edge and panel and address anything that needs attention.

How well does PPF hold up to rock chips?

It is designed to take those impacts for your paint. The urethane layer absorbs energy from rock and gravel strikes and road debris before it reaches the finish, which is something a ceramic coating cannot do. Light scratches and swirl marks in the film's top coat can heal with heat from the sun, warm water, or a heat gun. No film prevents every impact - a severe enough strike, a collision, or a deep gouge can still cause damage, and film does not repair chips that are already in your paint.

Should I get PPF or a ceramic coating?

They solve different problems. PPF absorbs impacts: rock chips, gravel, road debris. A ceramic coating resists UV, chemicals, and water spots, adds gloss, and makes washing easier. Many customers do both, coating over the film, and our film + coating packages bundle them at 30% off the coating. If you drive I-5, SR-2, or gravel roads regularly, start with PPF on the front end.

Can PPF go over existing rock chips?

Film protects the condition of the paint underneath it - it does not repair paint damage that is already there. Existing chips stay as they are once the film goes over them, so we look at the panels first and tell you honestly what a finished result will look like. In some cases paint correction or touch-up before installation makes sense; that is an inspection conversation, not something we can promise sight unseen.

What do the edges look like?

Film is plotter-cut from patterns made for your specific year, make, and model, so edges follow your vehicle's panel lines rather than being trimmed freehand on the paint. Edges are visible on close inspection, as they are with any professionally installed film, and our technicians align and finish them so the film reads as part of the panel at normal viewing distance.

Do you take the bumper or door handles off?

No. APC does not remove door handles or bumpers as standard PPF installation practice. We work from vehicle-specific plotter-cut patterns and install with the vehicle assembled, so expect a clean professional film installation rather than a vehicle that has been disassembled.

How do I wash a car with PPF?

Wash routinely using normal car-wash methods and follow the post-installation care instructions we give you at pickup. Keep a pressure washer off the film edges, do not pick or scrub aggressively at edges, and remove bugs, sap, and bird droppings promptly instead of letting them sit. At the 10-day mark after installation, bring the vehicle back for a free wash and inspection.

Do both locations install PPF?

Yes. Both our Monroe shop in Snohomish County and our Tukwila shop in King County install paint protection film in-house, with the same film, the same pricing, and the same warranty terms.

Can I protect just specific panels?

Yes. We install PPF on any painted panel: rocker panels, A-pillars and roof line, luggage strip and tailgate, rear impact areas, or anything else that takes abuse on your vehicle. Individual panels are quoted based on size and complexity.

Is the installation documented?

Yes. Every PPF installation at APC Auto Spa is reported to your vehicle's CARFAX history under Appearance Protection Service Reporting, which helps document the investment at resale.

Do you still offer the Ultimate Armor package?

Ultimate Armor paired Full Front paint protection film with the Ultimate ION coating. We now offer that same combination - Full Front film plus Ultimate ION - $3,260 for a car, along with Silver and ION versions, all at 30% off the coating. Our film is STEK DYNOshield.

How long does a film and coating package take?

Plan on about two days for a Full Front film and coating combination. Film goes on first, then the coating is applied over it. We'll be in touch with updates so you know what time your vehicle will be ready.
